Local developer Brian M Durkan has applied to Dublin city council for permission for a scheme to be operated by New York-based Common Living. It is proposed for a derelict site on Mountjoy Street. The same developer obtained permission in 2005 for more than 40 apartments on the site, but did not build them.
Units will start at 15 square metres, with the average being 21.7 square metres.
“Similar to nautical design, these suites are perfectly balanced between size and function,” Common Living said in its application. “Everything is calibrated: we know how many rooms should fit into a home and how much fridge space a member needs.”
Communal kitchens will be shared by 14 to 17 people, with residents also sharing a gym, laundry room, library, cafe, meeting rooms, balconies, sound booths and lounges.
A communal garden and 121 bike parking spaces will be provided, but there will be no car parking.
