£30 million Scottish resort project to feature aparthotel

UK: Plans for a £30 million resort development in Balloch, near Loch Lomond, include an aparthotel.

The amendments to the proposed resort, a joint venture between Scottish Enterprise and Flamingo Land Ltd, were lodged last week. The original proposals included 105 holiday lodges, an aparthotel, brewery, monorail and an indoor leisure and waterpark centre at West Riverside and Woodbank House.

However, the resort, named Lomond Banks, has now been amended with changes including:
• Conversion and extension of Woodbank House to form 15 residential flats
• Reducing the number of proposed houses within the grounds of Woodbank House from 20 to six
• Increasing the number of proposed lodges/bothies within the grounds of Woodbank House from 28 to 50
• Changing the use of the proposed boathouse on the promontory at Drumkinnon from self-catering to storage/water based recreation
• Changing to the extent of development at the Pierhead

The project, which has an anticipated completion date of 2024, expects to bring as many as 80 full time jobs, 50 part-time jobs and to 70 seasonal posts to the area.

Once all representations and information from the applicant has been fully considered, the planning case officer will make a recommendation to board members to either approve or refuse the application.
