I am an architect, author, TEDx speaker and mental wellbeing advocate, and have worked hard to carve out a position as a thought leader in designing for happiness and wellbeing. I am a Director at Ekkist, a design-for-wellbeing consultancy, supporting teams in creating healthier places to work and live. I also write articles and gives talks about design for wellbeing regularly.
I developed an interest in design for mental health, wellbeing and happiness after suffering with anxiety problems in my mid-twenties. This led me to research the relationship between buildings and happiness, which formed the basis of my first book: Happy by Design. I now speak on this subject to businesses and universities around the world.
In 2019 I qualified as a WELL Accredited Professional, broadening my knowledge to encompass design for physical wellbeing. I now work with developers and consultants to improve how buildings support mental and physical health.
In 2017 I co-founded the Architects’ Mental Wellbeing Forum, which is focused on improving mental health within the industry. I am also an accredited mindfulness practitioner with the Mindfulness Association, and an interested in how buildings can help us to be more mindful, and present every day.
“"We’re witnessing a groundswell of alternative accommodations challenging the status quo as to how we will stay, live and work – it’s already at the centre of many conversations. I am delighted to be part of the first true Urban Living event that addresses the complex issues of branding, distribution, supply, regulation, UX, technology and more"Sean Worker, Managing Director, T5 Strategies
